Stephen Williams was only 11 years old when Deerfield,
MA was raided by the French and Native Americans in
1704. He and his other family members were forced
to march to northern Vermont. Shortly after his
return 1½ years later, he wrote this account of his
captivity.
The Diary includes the reflections of Reverend Stephen
Williams who was the first minister of the First Church
of Christ in Longmeadow. The Diary covers the
time period from 1716, when Stephen Williams became
Longmeadow’s first minister, until his death in 1782.
